The City of Casey and Cardinia Shire have made an agreement to alter the service model offered to their respective libraries. This will mean the closure of Casey Cardinia Libraries (CCL) Corporation at the end of 2022.

Councils have claimed they were influenced by a myriad of factors:

  • CCL has developed into one of Victoria’s top library services for the public, with increasing the amount of library spaces within both municipalities expected to rise to 750,000 by 2041.
  • The growth, diversification and ever-changing needs of their communities
  • A new law has been added to the Local Government Act 2020 that calls for the existing regional library system to be re-examined and modified.

A deal has been made to dissolve CCL on December 31, 2022. CCL entity by December 31, 2022. Both Casey and Cardinia councils will start seeking the new partner by the second part of 2021 in order to locate the right partner that is compatible with the requirements of the Local Government Act 2020.

Both councils will be involved in the process of engaging their communities about their library’s new plan, and will work alongside the CCL Leadership team to plan and assist staff throughout the transition process.

The councils have been praised for the excellent work performed by CCL staff over the past 25 years, notably their efforts to offer access to services to those who reside with them during the COVID-19’s epidemic. While the transition to a new model of service might bring some changes in the background there is no intent of the councils to reduce on the library services. They will instead increase and enhance the services that are available.

The change won’t have any consequences for the library membership you currently have, and you’ll can access the same services that you currently enjoy. They will inform you of any change that occurs and plan to see you at the library once they have scheduled to open in the near future.

Public libraries are expected to perform more than simply manage libraries and lend books. In a time experiencing rapid change libraries play a vital function in promoting literacy by providing information at no cost and also encouraging an interest in learning that’s continuous and improving economic outcomes for all members of the community.

CCL is one of Victoria’s largest libraries, which provide services to the public. The major portion of their funds come from CCL and The City of Casey, Cardinia Shire Council and The Victorian State Government. They provide services to a rapidly growing and diverse community of more than 420,000 residents.

The number of residents within cities like the City of Casey and Cardinia Shire councils is expected to rise to over 700,000 in 20 years.

Libraries are situated within Bunjil Place, Cranbourne, Doveton, Emerald, Endeavour Hills, Hampton Park, and Pakenham.

The Cardinia Mobile Library provides a weekly service to Beaconsfield, Bunyip, Cockatoo, Garfield, Gembrook, Koo Wee Rup, Lang Lang, Maryknoll, Nar Goon, Tynong and Upper Beaconsfield.
