Cranbourne Secondary College was established in the 1970s in order to meet the needs of Cranbourne’s expanding population.
It was established in 1975 and has a level 7 year. Cranbourne High School was its original name. It celebrated its 40th birthday in 2016. Because there weren’t many houses in the area, students came from faraway. The original uniform was a maroon jumper and grey pants. The school’s motto was “While We Live, We Grow”. It was a symbol of the collective and personal growth of students. Cranbourne Secondary College, a 40-year old institution, has more than 1300 students. Over the next five-years, there will be a 15% increase in student numbers. This is due in part to the growing number of students who speak English as an extra language.
The physical environment has undergone significant changes over the past few years, with 2 stages of a 3-stage masterplan for building construction being completed. In 2018, Stage 3 was completed. The Visual Arts Centre will be opening in 2018 at Stage 3. The College’s Student Attitudes toward School Survey shows that students feel engaged and well. In almost all areas, they score significantly higher than the state.
A strong co-curricular program, pastoral support at all levels (7-10 years), and a large Wellbeing section are key to students’ well-being. Anita Templin founded the MultiPride program in 2004 for students to promote harmony and well-being at the College.
VCAL and VCE are strong programs at the college. It also has connections and pathways with many other partners, including Monash University, Deakin University and the Australian Business and Community Network. Many of its students have received mentorships and scholarships from industry leaders.
