Kelly’s Hotel

The Kelly family bought the Motor Club Hotel after having previously owned Cranbourne Hotel. They wanted a place that would cater to the community in a safe and welcoming environment. Today, the Kelly family owns the pub. This ensures that the pub is kept in its tradition and upholds high standards.

These are great spots for friends to get together over a variety of wines and beers. They include all of Australia’s top regions, such as the Gippsland and Mornington Peninsula.
There is nothing better than dining outside on a warm evening and sipping a refreshing drink. The Alfresco Deck is located curbside on Childers St and can accommodate 80 people. It is shaded by three Chinese Elm trees. The large outdoor TV allows them to enjoy the major sporting events. The hours of operation are Monday to Thursday 12pm-Late, Friday-Sunday 11:15am-Late.
Kelly’s Motor Club Hotel dates back to the early 1900s and is now in its fourth generation. Kelly’s is an integral part of Cranbourne’s history, along with other important industries that have made Cranbourne’s historical identity, such as dairy farming and horse, trotting, greyhound racing (Cranbourne hosts Australia’s only Tricode meeting).
Arthur T Kelly purchased the Mornington Hotel back in 1917. It was located on the same spot as Kelly’s Hotel. The former hotel, which was in Mornington was named appropriately because of its location. The new name of the pub was Kelly’s Motor Club Hotel. Why did they choose this name? You had to be a “bona fide sailboat” in the past century to get Sunday beer. You had to travel some distance to Melbourne to be eligible. Kelly’s Motor Vehicle Owners came from all walks of life to Kelly’s. They took a driving tour of the local area that began and ended at the pub.
After serving with the R.A.A.F 37th Squadron in WWII, Flight Lieutenant Thomas Arthur Kelly (Arthurs’ son) was released from the military and returned to the public as an administrator. He ran the hotel with Betty for thirty years.
Betty and Tom had 2 children, Margaret and Arthur. Together, Margaret’s husband Alan Stocks and Arthur’s spouse Carol made Kelly’s what it is today. Together, they witnessed the changes in the hotel industry, including the end of closing at 6 o’clock and the introduction of responsible serving alcohol, gaming, anti-smoking laws, and the end to closed hours.
Kelly is the fourth generation to carry on the tradition. Kelly is at the center of a vibrant and growing community.
